Australia's best urban planning for 2009!!!
Transforming Australian Cities…addresses many of the same challenges confronting Brisbane. Its logic is compelling & findings are provoactive. For all those with an interest in urban life I highly recommend you take a little time to read the report.
Infill is Cheaper
“for every 1,000 dwellings, the costs for infill and fringe developments are $309million and $653million respectively.”
High-density does not require high-rise
“Malmo (Sweden) is comprised of highly sustainable buildings of 2-5 storeys in height. As with Barcelona, this low-rise, high density dispels the myth that high density requires high-rise.”
“It is arguable that no new building needs to be higher than 8 storeys to achieve high density compact cities for the future”
Using our streets better
“streets will be modified to favour rapid public transport, bicycles and pedestrians over motor vehicles.”
